From Shadow War to Hybrid Confrontation: The Transformation of Iran Israel Rivalry in the Middle East

Abstract

One of the oldest and complicated wars in the Middle East is war between Iran and Israel with the ultimate causes of Political, Religious and Territorial Quibbles. The geopolitical balance in the Middle East was altered after the 2025 Iran-Israeli war, and it became evident that international diplomacy is fragile and the liberal process of diplomacy in dealing with the nuclear issue is weak. The war, which lasted for twelve days, also reintroduced the question of anticipatory self-defense to discussion and also resulted in doubts about the viability of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as the model for preventing any nuclear activity because of Israel's Operation Rising Lion and Iran's Operation True Promise 3. The paper reflects the impact of the conflict on the natural nature of the relations between regional actors, and how it has questioned the pertinence of international institutions created to advance peace, in the context of liberal institutionalism. Other powers, such as the United States, Russia and China, also played a role and the possibility of escalation created by the nuclear ambitions of Islamic Iran is also discussed. The basics of the conflict and stability to the region are to be achieved through further diplomatic efforts and improved regional cooperation as underscored in the paper.
