Abstract
In this era organizations are significantly accepting the importance and need for incorporation of environmentally favorable practices to cultivate beneficial results for sustainable development. In the context of the workforce inside an organization, leaders play a vital role in motivating and engaging their followers to gain fruitful outcomes. This qualitative research investigates the role of supportive leadership in developing green behavior among the employees in the banking sector of Pakistan. The banking sector has a pivotal role in the economy of any country, as it provides financial support to government institutions and the public as well. On the other hand, sustainability concerns are also more relevant to the banking sector as it falls under the category of non-polluting industries, but its financial practices have a great impact on environmental sustainability. This study provides a comprehensive framework for this contemporary challenge by incorporating an under-researched leadership style, “Supportive Leadership,” with “Employee Green Behavior”. Semi-structured interviews will be conducted with employees of the top five banks in Pakistan. This study employs the six-step thematic analysis approach to apply qualitative methodology followed by inductive reasoning.
